All this started once I was in handle of the reception to adhere to my daughter's recital. I designed a beautiful square chocolate cake with chocolate butter cream frosting. About the edges I drizzled a rich semi-sweet chocolate frosting. However designed a special 80th birthday cake toppers at a candy mold that has a large musical note. I additionally made other small chocolate decorations to get around the layers. This set it up the thought to create special toppers.
Recently I made a special carrot cake for my father-in-law's 80th birthday cake toppers. While using the method I will share below I designed a giant 80 out of white chocolate and attached the numbers to skewers even though the chocolate used to be wet. I was then able to stick this into the top layer from the cake. I then created a 10th birthday topper utilizing the same method just with milk chocolate.
With my computer I use numbers the size and style I need using the outline font. I lay this over a tray that can fit into the fridge. Next, I place waxed paper over it. I melt chocolate melts or choc chips + (1 tsp. - 1 Tablespoon shortening added based on what number of chips you are melting). I put this melted chocolate in a decorator bag or maybe a zip top baggie which has the corner snipped. Then I fill space on the number and stick a skewer or possibly a sucker stick in the number (engrossed in chocolate naturally). I refrigerate these until they are set well. I finish decorating my cake and stick them inside top for the final touch.
